Reed on the river

I am still very much in the mood for colourful and less traditional outfits and the crafted Elven Outrider’s Armour is a chest piece that looks great in many different dye colours. Finding the right pieces to complement is the fun of outfitting. I used the chest piece for my Cloak of the Dragonfly yesterday, and this outfit uses the same piece in another colour and combined with different armour pieces.

Teleri elf

Inspired by my numerous dips in the sea this summer, I came up with an outfit for a Teleri elf, known for their love of the sea. The mace is what I would use if ever cosmetic weapons were introduced, and is a drop from the Rift.

Renowned

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.
The weeks before the release of Rise of Isengard, I had set myself some personal goals to achieve before heading into the new expansion. One of those goals was to finally finish up the last of the Enedwaith reputation that I needed for the World Renowned title and the beautiful white steed that comes with it. I managed to do all my daylies regularly, and finally made it to kindred with the Grey Company (which was the last of the factions) two weeks before release. I must admit I hated every minute of that Black Flames quest in the wolves cave, playing pacman with those horrible shadow wolves, but I made it! I finally got to ride that beautiful white horse.
There’s just one thing about the horse that I dislike, and that is the vivid red flag on its rear end. Why would anyone in his right mind ride around in the wild waving a huge red flag? I mean, isn’t that just asking for trouble?

When I obtained the horse I could not immediately think of a proper outfit, but with all the beautiful quest armour from Theodred’s riders, there is plenty to choose from now. When I obtained these leggings I liked them right away. I also knew I wanted the medium head piece, but it took me a while to get it because when I first had the chance to grab it in Gravenwood I chose a cloak instead (ah choices….). Fortunately the cap was offered again in Isengard and I could finally complete my horse riding outfit.

Coordinated

Image may be NSFW.

I think this outfit represents what I like most about outfitting: taking pieces from different origins and creating a new ensemble out of them that matches in colours, style and design.  When I started off this blog I created a “fancy huntress” outfit for this character. Today I went back to create another feminine and stylish huntress outfit. The newer Dunland pieces and the old world crafted armour and cosmetics match quite well if you are careful. Not everything matches, and unfortunately a lot of the older armour “clips” with the newer designs, so it’s a bit of trial and error to find something that works, but I can assure you that I find that process much more enjoyable than slapping on a generic pre-made armour set!

Ithilien huntress

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.

There are not many women described in Tolkien’s works, and the women with an heroic role like Eowyn and Arwen can be counted on one hand. But I’m convinced there must have been more of them, secretly and quietly helping their brothers, fathers and friends to fight against the darkness. Often times going into battle from the shadows, launching an arrow or a dagger only when it mattered most. These women may not have been heard or written about, but they were there. And a handsome man like Captain Faramir must surely have had a number of female rangers among his loyal followers.

I have totally fallen in love with the Worn Ranger’s Hood on female characters. I am also aware that I am posting a lot of female outfits lately and I will try to make amends and visit my champion this week to see if he has anything interesting in his wardrobe. On the other hand, this is my blog and I can of course just post whatever I want, but I understand not everyone plays a female character and I need to invest some time in male outfits to keep things interesting.

I swear I was really trying to make an outfit for the Cloak of the Fifth Spring (reward from the Anniversary quest), but as usual I ended up with something completely different. When it comes to creating outfits on demand I frequently wander away from my initial intent, finding other combinations that I like better.

The head piece in this outfit has a long pointed veil that drops down at the back. You can cover that up with a cloak or shoulder guards, but it’s actually a very nice detail that should be visible. The wrapping around the neck is part of the head piece as well, which I think looks a bit better in combination with a top that covers up the chest. The classic pieces from the Light Armour vendor in Rivendell relentlessly find their way back into my wardrobe every once in a while. These pieces are so versatile that they fit into almost every combination.

Anticipation

Riders of Rohan is going to change this wonderful game forever. Most certainly for the better, as I believe the majority of changes and the beautiful new Rohan regions are a much needed breath of fresh air. It’s going to be amazing, and most of us are looking forward to it with much anticipation. No doubt Turbine staff will be holding their breath tomorrow as they keep monitoring the download servers on the day of release. Those days are not like other days, and usually extremely stressful for everyone. I expect to get stuck on the launcher or not enter at all on the first day, but this is all fine with me. Eventually, we all get there, and cross that bridge into Rohan. Image may be NSFW.

Just like any other player that bothers with outfits, I’ve prepared my characters for the journey into Rohan. I really wanted to achieve a very rugged look, at least for the first part of the journey. I know that I’ll soon be changing outfits again, as new gear will start to appear that looks more interesting than what I’ve been using forever already, but still I wanted my characters to look travel ready. So here’s my last pre-Rohan outfit for my Lore-master.
I wish everyone who reads this a very wonderful journey into Rohan this week. Enjoy the beautiful new scenery and most of all the incredible music!

Huntress of Streams

This is the second outfit I made for Tuiliel of Landroval, Lady of Streams. Just like the dress outfit, it centers around blues and greens, swirls and wave patterns and earthy colours. The most important part of these two outfits is the shoulder piece, Noriel’s Folly, which I think is awesome for female elf huntresses. As far as I know there is currently only one way to obtain it in game, as this piece is no longer available in the Ettenmoors. Tuiliel is level 70 and has yet to enter the Great River area. Since Riders of Rohan this area has been lowered to start at level 70, which offers a great alternative to levelling in gloomy Isengard. The leggings used are also a reward from the Great River area, but a bit further into the quest lines all the way into the Brownlands. These pieces have become quite precious now that the Ettenmoors pieces have been removed from the barters.

Tuiliel was very happy happy with these two outfits and has access to all the pieces, so she didn’t really want anything changed. I was very happy with them myself as I think these two outfits really fit her title well. This was my first attempt ever at making an outfit for someone else, based on their own idea and desires, and it turned out rather well!

This second outfit for Tiny came together after Update 9, as a result of the Barad Guldur armor becoming available at the Skirmish camp. I don’t know of many serious outfitters who are not delighted with these additions, because many pieces of these level 65 armor sets are must-haves, or at least desirable items. One of those must-haves are the level 65 Loremaster’s shoulders. These are so unique and beautiful that they are a wonderful addition to any wardrobe, and can be worn with dresses, armor and robes alike. For this outfit I chose a classic Mirkwood look with crafted pieces, and only those shoulders as a finishing touch, and no cloak as to make it stand out more.

Except for the shoulders, the entire ensemble is made with crafted items. However these are crafted with Mirkwood recipes so you need a Tailor with Friend standing in Mirkwood to craft them. The recipes can be bought in Ost Galadh, and once learned are not forgotten again. At level 65 this armor set was very common, but these days the items are rare. I still like them for their natural look and leather-like base color and they are an excellent match to any other item from the Barad Guldur sets that you may want to combine with.

So it’s Fashion Week, and I have the honor of hosting Coupon Codes for two free dye colors at the Lotro Store! You can find these codes in the left side bar of this blog. To help you get inspired I will post two outfits during Fashion Week using these colors as their main theme.
My favorite dye color is black. Black is always stylish and black evens out all wishy washy background colours that we sometimes find on armour, so it’s both beautiful and useful. Since it’s Fashion Week, looking fancy is way more important than the practical aspects of your outfit, so a huntress in a robe is just perfect for the occasion!

The hat and shoulders are part of the Ost Dunhoth Minstrel set, which can be bought with medallions at Harndirion or can be purchased as cosmetics from the Mannequins for the duration of this patch (10). If you are like me you probably received a load of Mithril Coins with the conversion of Festival Tickets and Travel Writs, so if you’re wondering what to do with those, grabbing some of those Mannequin sets might be a good idea.
I hope you all participate in the Fashion Screenshot Contest this week because I count on you to give us a really hard time judging all the entries for the Fashionista’s Choice Award!

Just when I think I’m done posting for a while because there’s not enough time in the day, I get distracted by this awesome Spring Festival war-steed Caparison that is just begging me to be used in a screenshot. This most outrageous neon-green color has me completely fascinated, so here it is. The dawn gave me just enough time to capture a few worthwhile screenshots of my latest dark and mysterious night elf outfit.

There’s no shot of the backside of the outfit unfortunately, but this unique top, which is now for sale at Lalia’s Market in Bree, has a beautiful back, so I didn’t cover it up with a cloak. If you love the Annúminas cosmetics, this top makes a great addition to the Seven Stars set. I first saw this top during the Dressage daily in Harwick but had not seen it before and had no idea where to get it. I’m so glad it’s now available as a cosmetic!
The head piece however is no longer available in game, as it belongs to the obsolete PvMP Hunter’s armour set. I hope those sets will show up at Lalia’s too some day!

There is absolutely nothing to this outfit other than that I wanted to make a really practical yet very elegant travel ensemble for one of my female characters. I only insisted on using Walnut Brown as a dye color, because so far that color was sorely lacking in my outfits. I love the warm, dark chocolate color of this dye, and am still grateful it was added to my scholar’s crafting skills.

The leggings used in this outfit are an old pair of the Burglar’s Rift armor set (now also available from the Cosmetics Vendor), that have retained their cosmetic value over the years. Combined with more up-to-date items, I still love them. Incidentally Devonna from Lotro Stylist has used those same leggings on her male hobbit, with a different pair of boots creating a very unique combination. The Lotro Stylist has been actively posting some new outfits lately, so if you haven’t visited for a while, I absolutely encourage you to do so. Her outfit ideas and wonderful pictures are a “must see” for any cosmetics lover.
The quiver in this outfit is a rare find these days. It used to be a craft-able tailoring recipe that would drop from boxes during the Spring Festival, but since they changed the type of boxes, this recipe is no longer on the loot list. So only few old-school tailors on the server may be able to make this quiver. Ask for it in your /world channel if you’re looking for one.

Autumn is the official hunting season, but in Lotro I am basically hunting year round. I suppose it’s permanently open season for orcs, goblins and other creeps. So here’s my first Autumn outfit. I’m hoping to get to do another one over the next week, as I have a short break from work and a bit more time to play Lotro.
The good news from the forums is that Update 15 is getting close, and has launched into beta today, so anyone curious to find out about the rugged looks and new play style of the Beorning class can now find out on Bullroarer. If you can’t or won’t play on Bullroarer, I’m sure there will be plenty of pictures and comments published on the forums soon to take a look at if you’re curious.

Last week I was interviewed by a player from Imladris who is conducting a survey about the use of cosmetics in mmo’s. It was fun to do, but so much to tell and so little time to tell it all! The cosmetic system in Lotro is so unique and well developed over the years, that I can hardly believe I started out collecting cosmetics years ago with a “White Ceremonial Dress” as the highlight of my collection. It turns out I now have 4 alt characters with full vault storage exclusively dedicated to storing cosmetics and armour pieces, not to mention all the bound to character pieces that my main characters store in their vaults. I don’t even use half of it!
I would like to give a shout out to Nathrien from Material Middle-earth who created a really nice Elven hauberk outfit using the Light Nadhin Shoulders, creating a surprisingly nice new look. Very lovely combination!
